Carburetor is Leaking

The information contained in our websites is designed as a guide only, for assisting Repair Professionals. By using our information you are agreeing to our T&Cs.

Often leaking from the Carb happens when the Carb Float Needle gets stuck, normally this is easy to rectify. Leaks can also occur if the Carb Bowl is not seated correctly, or if the Carb Bowl Seal is pinched or has perished.

Watch this video to find out how to free up the Float Needle. It is the same procedure on all Carbs:

If it is still leaking you need to clean the Carb and check the Float and Float Needle tip for wear, then replace if necessary. Sometimes the plastic or rubber tip of the Float Needle has disintegrated and isn’t creating a seal, allowing fuel through.

The fuel system is gravity fed, so if the problem is not fixed it’s possible that the whole Fuel Tank will drain out onto the floor.

Some Generators have “Carb Repair Kits” or “Float Needles” available separately from the Carbs, which is a less expensive option than replacing the whole Carb itself. A new Float Needle is included in all the Carb Repair Kits we keep in stock.
